God, Science and Beauty

Isn't that a beautiful pic? Its called "Light Echoes From Red Supergiant Star." A friend of mine showed me a link to this website that is all about the Hubbel telescope and its pretty amazing and there are some awesome pics there, you should see them!

Pics From The Hubble Telescope

What I told my friend is that looking at something like this makes me believe that there must be a God. I mean, I know that the Hubble site is a science site and that all these things have been discovered by science, but I'm not one of those people who believe that you can either believe in God OR science. I think science is the way that God shows us how He did it all.

Wow I wrote a whole blog and didn't even think about sex.

I wonder if Im SICK??? OMG maybe I'm SICK!!!

Oh wait...I just thought about sex. Whew. I'm ok.

I really like your take on things, and yes it is a beautiful picture. I'm going to check that site out right now.

What's your record (in seconds) for how long you've gone without thinking about sex? lol.

hehe you do make me chuckle kyle. it *is* a beautiful pic and i will check out the site. i think you've really only got to look around to wonder if there is a higher being, and it seems that the intricacies of science just make it harder to believe that there isn't.

if you're interested, you could check out this site: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html - it's an astronomy picture per day. the site is a bit klunky, but there's some amazingly cool photos on there although sometimes you have to trawl back a few days to find them. if you go back to jan 15th, you'll see a picture of a bridge that's close to where i was born!

take care buddy

That is an incredible picture. The universe is such as vast and wonderful place, it boggles the mind. And I'm with you - I believe that science is Gods way of allowing us to try to understand His work. After reading a few books about what makes the universe tick, at least as much of it as we understand, the fact that there must be a creator becomes pretty clear. As much as we know, there is still so much more to be discovered. And what we have yet to discover will be even more amazing than we can imagine.

Take care,

KP

Love the picture-- I agree the wonder of the cosmos is awesome.

I personally don't understand atheism--I may not understand their definition though. I think everyone understands and "believes" that something proceeded the universe but what it is is probably something we can't even understand... so I don't think its fair to even guess. I believe that the best we can do is understand the things that we can observe that exist in our universe, and "science" is the right tool for the job. The rest is speculation and guessing, and the fact that it (most religions) looks so much like the petty human things (jealousy, anger) that have plagued our history, should be a sign that the common expectation of god is nothing like whatever created our universe.

Side note: there is a popular theory (m-theory) that has a potential prediction that our universe could be on a p-dimensional 'membrane' that has the potential to create other "universes" when two 'membranes' smack together. Think of bubble bath-- the idea is that our universe may be just one bubble in a bubble bath, and each collision of bubbles is potentially a big bang for other universes being born. So maybe our god is Mr. Bubbles :-)

Much Love,
Steve

I agree with you that science tells us things about how God set up the universe and makes it run.

Consider this. If the awe of nature indicates there must be a god, then the god in question must be even more awesome, thus needing another god to explain him, and so on and so on. Best stick with what you know and not what you wish. The universe is awesome, it exists. Beyond that there is no evidence.
